What is the rule of thumb for placing contemporary ceiling lights?

For optimal effect, chandeliers or other traditional or modern ceiling lights should be installed in an open space, such as a living room, 210 to 230 cm above the floor. For a ceiling light used as a statement piece above a dining table, the ideal height is 75 to 90 cm from the tabletop.

The purpose of installing a contemporary ceiling light, or any lighting, is to create an inviting atmosphere. However, hanging a fixture at the wrong height can affect its functionality. For example, placing it too low in a living room might cause visitors to walk into it, while over a dining table, it could disrupt the balance of the space.
