Premium Finishes

We supply picture lights with a variety of finishes, each with different colourways. When choosing the right picture light for your space, consider matching the colour of your light fitting to the frame of your artwork or coordinating it with the rest of the room’s decor.

Here is an overview of our premium picture light finishes.

  • Antique brass: An antique brass finish is dark brown with golden undertones and soft brush marks.
  • Nickel: A silverly-white finish with a golden tint.
  • Antique Bronze: This finish stands out with its deep, rich tone, setting it apart from the warmer hue of antique brass.
  • Gold: A polished finish with a high shine.
  • Polished chrome: A smooth silver mirror-like finish.

Purposeful & Polished Design

Various light fixtures, such as wall sconces, table lamps, and floor lights, can be used to illuminate paintings. However, the intentional design of picture lights provides a more effective and focused solution.

Most of our modern picture lighting fittings have a long, slim lampshade with an adjustable swivel arm. It is this practical design that enables picture light fittings to best highlight your artwork.

FAQs

Before you proceed to checkout, take a moment to explore our answers to common questions about our picture lights.

How do I choose the right lights for above my pictures?

There are no hard rules for choosing picture light fittings. However, here are some guidelines you can follow to meet your lighting requirements.

The size of the picture light

The width and length of the artwork and the picture light should be in proportion to each other. A picture light should be 50-75% (or roughly half to two-thirds) of the display piece to provide the desired illuminating effect.

Picture light placement

  • The size of the photo or painting will dictate the placement of your picture light. A small piece is best lit from the centre. Bigger sizes will benefit from picture lamps placed slightly higher for more balanced illumination.
  • The general practice is to install lights for framed pictures between 150-175mm above the frame.
  • The purpose of the room also plays a role in picture frame lighting, as the placement should complement the space. For spaces like hallways, a picture light should be installed at eye level when standing, ensuring that the artwork or photos draw the attention of those passing through. In living spaces, however, over-picture lighting can be placed at varying heights to give the room a relaxed, inviting atmosphere.

Do LED lights fade photos or artwork?

No, LED picture lights do not fade photographs or artwork, as they do not emit ultraviolet (UV) rays. In fact, many museums (notably the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam) have switched over to UV light bulbs for their paintings.
