Our Luxury Dining Room Lighting Collection
Modern living demands multifunctional spaces, so dining rooms are often used for home offices, homework areas or hobby corners. With our ambient, task and accent lights, we can help you design a layered lighting scheme that makes the most of your dining room, no matter the occasion.
Read MoreOur versatile dining room light fixtures are designed to foster connection and optimise space. In open-plan homes, targeted lighting can create specific areas, like dining and leisure zones.
Here are some of the features you can expect from our dining room light range.
Various Styles & Sizes
A successful layered lighting design for a dining room requires many different fixtures. Thanks to dimmer switches, many lights can work in tandem or switch functions as the room transitions through various tasks during the day.
For example, a pendant light overhead can be bright enough to illuminate a makeshift office during dark winter mornings. Yet, that same pendant can emit a warm glow to create a cosy atmosphere for evening dinner parties, while other light sources, such as wall lights, can provide task lighting.
Explore the luminaires in this range, including pendants, ceiling lights and wall lights, to create an inviting atmosphere in your dining space.
Chandeliers
Whether dripping in delicate crystal or made from robust antique brass, traditional chandeliers have proven their longevity as dining room staples.
Our lighting designers have adapted these classic focal points to create contemporary updates to match more modern dining room aesthetics. They've also improved upon traditional models, making them more energy efficient.
Many of our modern chandeliers for the dining room come in eclectic linear forms to cast a gentle glow in every corner of a long table. These contemporary examples of practical centrepieces, like our modern glass chandeliers, don’t only work in minimalist spaces, but their clean lines can be used to ground traditional and transitional interiors.
Like pendants, chandeliers can also be added in sets to create a theatrical effect by spilling light over an elongated dining table.
Ceiling Lights
Overhead illumination is a dynamic and versatile interior design element. It offers a range of lighting solutions that balance necessity and visual elegance.
Recessed lighting discreetly illuminates with minimal visual intrusion. Alternatively, decorative light pendants, flush and semi-flush fixtures, paired with stylish wall light additions can serve as design statements.

Pendant Lights
The versatile nature of pendant lights allows for a wide range of interior design styles. For example, identical pendants in a neat row above the table can create perfect symmetry. For an eclectic look, hang different styles but in the same material, such as antique brass, clear glass or crystal, at varying heights.
Clustered dining room pendant lights offer the elegance of a chandelier without the structural limitations. Pendants in multitudes are a stylish solution for ceilings that can't handle the weight of a traditional chandelier.
The style and size of your dining room table will influence whether a single pendant or a cluster is more suitable. A solitary pendant can adequately light a small round or square table. However, a long dining table will need multiple pendants for even lighting and to prevent dark spots at the ends.
Flush & Semi-Flush Lights
There are some instances where hanging ceiling lights are not the perfect match. To demonstrate, if you want to highlight other statement pieces in the room, flush or semi-flush fixtures can provide subtle yet effective overhead lighting.
Though these luminaires are less dramatic than their pendant counterparts, they are also the best light fixtures for low ceilings.
Wall Lights
Dining room wall lights add depth to an area for refined and family dining experiences and enforce the room's function. See how our diverse styles of wall lights achieve this.
Wall Sconces
Wall sconces are a versatile choice for dining rooms, offering ambient lighting and decorative appeal.
For example, installing sconces on three walls can facilitate a warm, inviting atmosphere while providing ample light for a study or hobby nook. Their strategic placement also contributes to a cohesive design scheme.
In the evenings, wall sconces can be dimmed to enhance ambience or adjusted to optimal brightness for practical tasks and entertaining.
Picture Lights
The function of picture lights in a dining room extends further than their name suggests. In addition to accent lighting for photos and artwork, these wall lights can add visual depth by casting calculated shadows. They also give off vertical light streams on the wall that break the horizontal plane of traditional dining room lighting for visual interest.
Table & Floor Lamps
Discover some of the applications for table and floor lamps in one of the home’s most communal spaces.
Table Lamps
Table lamps are an unexpected hero of the dining room. They are wonderful task-lighting on sideboards for dishing up when the main ceiling lights have been dimmed. On the drinks cart, a table lamp can cast a warm white light when you pour another tipple.
Our cordless table lamps offer enhanced functionality as they eliminate potentially hazardous cords and may be the best light choice in a makeshift office. Since they don’t need to be close to a power plug and are powered by batteries, you can use them multiple times as decoration and illumination on the dinner table. Cordless luminaires are a safer alternative to candles with young children around.
Floor Lamps
Use floor lamps as part of your permanent lighting design, or move them around as needed. Standing lamps are fantastic task lighting and versatile design elements that instantly transform a room's ambience.
These vertical illumination sources offer exceptional flexibility, allowing you to direct light precisely where you need it most — whether illuminating a dining-up area or providing a soft ambient glow.

FAQs
Before you proceed to checkout, take a moment to explore our comprehensive answers to common questions about our refined dining room ceiling light selection.
What height should a chandelier or pendant light be above a dining table?
The general rule is to hang your chandelier or pendant light between 30 and 36 inches above the tabletop. The luminaire should hang low enough to illuminate the table without washing out the dining room. However, it shouldn’t ever obstruct the view between guests.
The lower you hang pendants or chandeliers, the more intimate the atmosphere. A dining room light hung low creates a cosy, cocooning vibe with soft illumination that may compliment the dining experience.
My ceiling light is not centred above my dining table. Is this a problem?
No, but it is best practice to install ceiling lights directly above the centre of the dining table. This allows for even light in the space and a balanced aesthetic.
These are two great options to consider when correcting the placement of your dining room lights.
1. Move the Junction Box: If the junction box is off-centre, the most straightforward solution is to consult a qualified electrician to move it to a more suitable location.
2. Ceiling Hook Installation: If you have a hanging ceiling light, such as a pendant, and the junction box is relatively close to your desired location, you can install a sturdy ceiling hook to loop the cord. The hook will support and redirect how the pendant light hangs.
Do I have to rewire my dining room when I get luxury lighting?
Not necessarily, but upgrading your lights can be an ideal opportunity to upgrade your home’s electric system.
Design experts advise having two different circuits for the best light solution. Having ambient and task lighting on different circuits will give you more freedom to adjust from one mode to another. You might also need a professional to install a dimmer switch compatible with LED bulbs or move the junction box.

Can kitchen and dining room lights have different styles?
Even if your home isn’t open-plan, the kitchen and dining area often flow naturally and compliment one another. While the lighting styles don’t need to match precisely, maintaining cohesion creates a harmonious look.
This can be achieved by selecting fixtures with similar materials, finishes or designs or choosing pieces from the same lighting collection or designer. For instance, if you used pendant lights over your kitchen island, statement pendants in the dining room can echo the same design language, tying the spaces together.
What is the ideal brightness for dining room lights?
The ideal brightness for dining room lights generally falls between 300 to 500 lux or lumens per square metre, depending on the size of the space and the atmosphere you wish to create.
A light with a warm white colour temperature is recommended for a warm environment. This type of warm white light is perfect for dining spaces, as it encourages relaxation and enhances the dining experience.
Opting for LED bulbs in your dining room ensures energy efficiency and long-lasting performance. LEDs with a warm white colour light provide a soft, pleasant glow. For added versatility, get a model with dimmer switches that allow you to adjust the brightness to suit different occasions, whether for studying or an intimate dinner.
